José Suárez Padilla

José Suárez Padilla is a visiting lecturer in the Department of Prehistory in the Department of Historical Sciences at the University of Málaga.

He holds a degree in Geography and History from the University of Malaga, and a PhD from the Complutense and Autonomous Universities of Madrid. Member of the HUM-180 Research Group of the University of Malaga, he has participated in several projects of the National Plan of R+D+i of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, focused on the study of the prehistoric site of Perdigões, in Reguengos de Monsaraz (Évora - Portugal), and in the surroundings of the Dolmen Sites of Antequera. He has developed a research contract in the framework of the German-French research project ARCHEOSTRAITS, focused on the study of the Early Iron Age on the northern shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, due to its link with the systematic study of the Early Iron Age site of Los Castillejos de Alcorrín, in Manilva, Málaga, acting as co-director of several General Research Projects of the Junta de Andalucía (2006-2021) carried out in the same. He is a member of the team of the R&D project "Earthquakes and tsunamis in the Iberian Peninsula in ancient times: social responses in the long term", which includes the Phoenician site of Cerro del Villar (Malaga) as a case study. He has also participated in the research of other settlements from the same period located in places such as Ceuta, Melilla, the provinces of Cádiz, Málaga and Morocco.

In addition, he is a member of the Centre for Phoenician and Punic Studies and of the editorial board and secretary of the journal Mainake, published by the Diputación de Málaga. External evaluator of the Revista atlántica-mediterránea de Prehistoria y Arqueología Social and the Boletín de Arte de la UMA.
